Despite some slowdown in temporary and contract job demand as a whole, a recent report from e-skills UK has suggested that the IT sector will experience an above average level of growth over the next few years.
As reported by IT recruiters Jenrick, the report has forecasted employment of IT professionals to grown at 1.62% a year, which is almost twice the UK average up to 2020. In line with recent data from the REC, the e-skills report also found that a higher level of permanent IT positions were being offered than temporary and contract roles.
The one concern from the report was whether there could be a lack of highly skilled and qualified IT workers as the demand for new workers continues over the next few years. However, with the IT sector reportedly boosting the performance of the temporary jobs market this doesn’t appear to be a huge issue.
In order to support IT recruitment and growth, the REC have held continued discussions with government Employment Minister Chris Grayling and IT bodies such as Intellect. They have highlighted employment legislation and red tape issues which are restricting some workers, as well as looking at ways to address the potential skills gap.
